FAQ
-
WHY CAN'T I FIND PRICING FOR ANYTHING ON YOUR WEBSITE?The simple answer is because there is none. Here at Steelhead Alley Outfitters we enjoy having a conversation with those who want to do business with us. So, feel free to pick up the phone or drop us an email and we'll be more than happy to give you the information you're looking for. And, you might find that you get a bit more information than you would've otherwise.
-
DO YOU LET CLIENTS KEEP FISH?In short, the answer is no. Although the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania make allowances for people to keep fish based on the laws set forth by each state, here at Steelhead Alley Outfitters, we bellieve in catch and release for the species that we target and therefore do not allow clients to take fish when fishing with one of our guides. If you want to take fish home, get a walleye or perch charter. They're better eating anyhow.
-
DO I NEED TO TIP MY GUIDE?Yes, 15-20% is considered an industry standard for tipping. Tips are considered a gauge of how one has serviced their clients on any given day, much like a waiter or waitress in a restaurant. Average tips will be $60-$80 per day with tips often times exceeding $100.
-
DO YOU PROVIDE ALL THE GEAR I NEED FOR THE DAY?1. We DO NOT provide all the gear you need for the day. 2. We DO provide rods, reels, terminal tackle, flies, and lunch (on a full day). 3. We DO NOT provide proper attire for the day including waders and boots.
-
DO I NEED A RAIN COAT?Yes. Even on the days you think you don't. When fishing, rain is always a possibility, so live by the old adage that it's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
-
DO YOU TAKE BEGINNERS ON GUIDED TRIPS?Absolutely! We love the sport of fly fishing and thoroughly enjoy sharing that love with others. As long as you are willing to learn and understand that the learning curve may affect your days success, we are more than willing to be your teacher and help you get your start in this wonderful sport. We believe that if you are willing to give it a shot, you'll never look back and regret it. And don't be too intimidated by it. We have successfully taught children as young as 5 years of age in the past and helped them successfully land fish.
-
DO WE GET LUNCH? AND IF SO, WHAT?"Lunch is provided on all full day guided trips. The lunch provided is typically cold cuts of some kind with chips and a drink. During colder, wetter times of year, the guides may opt to have a hot cup of soup as well. If you have dietary restrictions, please be sure to speak with your guide prior to your scheduled fishing date so that they can be prepared.
-
HOW MANY FISH CAN I EXPECT TO CATCH IN A DAY?We are fishing guides, not fishing gods! That being the case, we can't answer that question. We guarantee our clients one thing and that is that we will put them on fish. That is what we CAN control. What we CANNOT control is how those fish will respond on any given day or how you will handle yourself when presented with an opportunity. At the end of each day though, we are confident that you will have been presented the opportunities to hook and land fish! And we sincerely hope that those opportunities will bring with it precious memories shared with those you love!
-
CAN WE BRING AND USE OUR OWN EQUIPMENT?Yes. We encourage each client to discuss with their guide during their initial phone call (one week in advance of your scheduled date) any intention they have of fishing their own gear. At this time, the guide will take inventory of what you have and help you understand if it is the appropriate gear for what you are planning to fish for. If it is, then bring it and fish it. If it's not, then you are better off leaning on the guides provisions for the day.
-
WHERE WILL WE BE FISHING?Your guide will discuss the initial plan over the phone, one week in advance of your scheduled date. Please note that due to ever changing stream conditions, the place you fish may very and could change right up until the last minute. Rest assured that the guides are going to do all they can to make sure you have the most amazing fly fishing adventure you can have with fish included!
